Dr Philips is an elected council member of the Intensive Care Society (ICS), a member of the Intensive Care Foundation (ICF) for research, and Chair of the ICS Education and Training Committee. Dr Philips’s research interests are in acute kidney injury (AKI), critical illness and sepsis, with particular emphasis on the impact of critical illness and AKI on the pharmacokinetics of drugs.

Her most recent area of research development is a collaboration with Professor Mike Sharland (Professor of Paediatric Infectious Diseases), working with Dr Joe Standing at UCL to use population pharmacokinetics to investigate the impact of critical illness on antibiotic concentrations. Dr Philips is also collaborating with Dr David Brealey of UCL to set up a trial testing the use of a new technology (Cytosorb®) in the treatment of sepsis. Msci world chart Her research aims to determine the impact of the system on antibiotic concentrations in vivo.

Dr Philips has a developed a novel method of measuring renal function in AKI for in vivo research. Dr Philips has also developed collaborations with the National Physical Laboratory.
